REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — July 16, 2007 — iPass, Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), a global provider of services that unify mobility management for enterprises, today announced iPass Device Protection Online, a service that mitigates the risks related to use of the Internet, USB ports and rogue applications, without requiring the up-front and ongoing investment in new enterprise infrastructure. When combined with the iPass mobility platform, iPass Device Protection Online can unify the connection, protection and management of remote and mobile devices into a single offering.
Organizations must keep their remote and mobile workforce productive while protecting corporate and customer data. iPass Device Protection Online, a result of the continued partnership with Symantec, integrates Symantec's policy-based device protection with iPass' ability to assess and update devices on-the-fly as an integral part of the connection process, meeting the needs of both end-users and the enterprise IT department.
The iPass Device Protection Online service works to continually guard devices and their data from boot to shutdown through the following key features:
Internet lockdown—at system boot, restricts Internet use to trusted applications and servers
Pre-VPN assessment and remediation—performs a device health check upon Internet connection and updates the device, if necessary, to bring it into policy compliance, all without requiring user intervention
Web-based policy management—lets IT implement policies via a web-based interface
USB lockdown—at system boot, blocks output of data via USB ports, blocks the read, write and execute permissions on removable drives; and disables unapproved devices
Application protection—blocks rogue applications while allowing authorized programs to run
Policy enforcement—unlocks Internet and USB port access only upon confirmation of policy compliance
Adaptive policies—allows for different policies to be implemented based on connection type and access location
"For our customers, mobile connectivity, device management and device security go hand in hand, yet they are often treated as independent problems by the industry," said Joel Wachtler, vice president of marketing and strategy for iPass. "As a result, businesses face two unattractive options: either block mobile workers from the access they need to drive the business, or ignore security policies for these devices in the wild."
"By integrating Symantec's best-of-breed device security software into our mobility platform, iPass has created a new solution that supports our customers' desire to execute an end-to-end mobility strategy," Wachtler added.
The service is offered on a subscription basis. The iPass Device Protection Online service is now available through iPass and its solution provider partners.
