MiFi Generic vs. MiFi Enterprise
MiFi – Generic Option:
The generic option is deployed straight off the shelf – manufacturer default SSID and Pre-shared Key (PSK).
The default SSID and PSK are shipped with the device.
The default PSK is the device ESN-DEC which 10 digits and is located on the MiFi box and under the MiFi battery.
The generic option is the solution of choice for users who plan to use MiFi for handheld Internet access.
We do not change the administrative management password with the generic option, so the user has admin access to change the security level, the key, etc.
MiFi – Enterprise Option:
The customer must accept the MiFi Enterprise-class order terms and conditions which outlines the $50 configuration fee per device.
The enterprise-class option is deployed with a customer-specific SSID (provided by the customer) and a new 63 character alpha-numeric Pre-shared Key (PSK). The SSID and PSK are deployed to the users via iPass Connet and the CBook.
Most companies see value in the enterprise-class (iPC and CBook) approach as the user never needs to know or enter the security key. This also means the user can never share the security key with friends, family or other users.
The enterprise-class PSK is an undesirable solution for handheld Internet access because it is highly unlikely the user would enter the 63 character PSK correctly.
With an enterprise deployment, we change that administrative management password to something unknown to the customer and user.
